In order to prevent a serious outbreak of Covid-19 in refugee camps on European ground, the local people need protective masks and other aid goods. Help Volt Austria to protect these people.

We can stem the spread of Covid-19 in the European refugee camps. Therefore, we are collecting free donations for the purchase of face masks and other relief supplies, which will be sent by Volt Europe to the refugee camps on the Greek islands and delivered to people in need through our local partners (NGOs).

Our goal is to raise 5.000 EUR to support the campaign by Volt Europa #EuropeCares.

Did you know that…
…there are currently over 118,000 refugees in Greece?
…over 40,000 of them in the Greek islands
…35,000 of these live in camps built for only 5,400 people.
…Thousands of asylum seekers, among them elderly and vulnerable people, live under miserable conditions. They are at particular risk of Coronavirus outbreak.

Did you know that…
…Doctors sent an open letter to governments and the European Union calling for "immediate action to ensure the safety of refugees".

They write: "[…] If Europe looks the other way now, the situation could escalate and become a medical disaster, representing serious violations of European health care rules and values.

We have a duty to prevent this from happening to the refugees and the Greek population, who have lived in insecurity for years, but also to Europe as a whole.

"Four years ago the leaders of the European Union promised that each member state would take in a fixed number of refugees from Greece and Turkey. Not a single EU state has fulfilled this agreement.

We appeal to all EU leaders to stick to the 2016 agreement and accept refugees in their countries to prevent a medical disaster on European ground.

EuropeCares Initiative

Over 40,000 refugees are stuck in camps in Greece.

Their living conditions pose a threat to health and safety. An outbreak of COVID-19 would not only spread rapidly, but would further exacerbate this humanitarian crisis. "Physical Distancing" is not possible in the camps.

The lack of initiative by European national political governments is devastating and violates human rights. The right and necessary measure is the immediate evacuation of all persons in all camps to ensure their safety.

With #EuropeCares we want to send a sign of solidarity and at the same time provide emergency aid by launching a Europe-wide campaign to collect necessary donations for these people in need.
