Volt makes Europe visible with chalk action
5th May 2020 | Press
Vienna: In the run-up to Europe Day, activists of the European Party Volt have marked around 40 jointly financed buildings and squares in Vienna with European flags made of chalk. Anyone who goes on a journey of discovery in the Grätzel and takes a photo of it can win a breakfast for two in Café Europa.
Transgender Law: Does Hungary violate the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union?
4th May 2020 | Blog
In Hungary, only the native gender will be legally registered in future, as reported by ORF on 3 May. Transgender people will no longer be allowed to have their gender registered and would thus be forcibly outed at every inspection.
Volt Österreich supports EuropeCares
EuropeCares collects donations to provide protective masks for refugees on the Greek islands. Volt is not only the first pan-European party, but we are a movement and support important social projects.
Help us contain the spread of Covid-19 in the European refugee camps. We are collecting free donations for the purchase of breathing masks that can save lives on the Greek islands. To prevent a serious outbreak of Covid-19 in refugee camps on European soil, the local people need the same masks that you get with every purchase. Help us to protect these people. We are collecting donations for the purchase of breathing masks, which will be sent to the refugee camps by Volt Europe.
Our goal is to collect 5.000,-€ until May 15th to support the Volt Europa #EuropeCares campaign.
Over 40,000 refugees are stuck in camps in Greece. Their living conditions pose a threat to health and safety. An outbreak of Covid-19 would not only spread rapidly, but would further aggravate this humanitarian crisis. "Physical Distancing" is not possible in the camps. The lack of initiative by European national political governments is devastating and violates human rights. The right and necessary measure is the immediate evacuation of all persons in all camps to ensure their safety.
With #EuropeCares we want to set a sign of solidarity and at the same time provide emergency aid by launching a Europe-wide campaign to collect necessary donations for these people in need.
Restrictions on fundamental rights and freedoms
The current Covid 19 pandemic demands massive interventions in freedom
The media repeatedly speak of site monitoring to control exit restrictions. Only recently, the operations of our armed forces were increased to relieve the police. This is important, but since this is a domestic military operation on the territory of the Republic of Austria, it must be transparent and monitored.
Such measures to combat the pandemic are important, but when the crisis is over, it will be all the more important, in view of the intervention in democracy and the incapacitation of the Hungarian parliament, to restore the restrictions on fundamental rights and freedoms to normal. Our fundamental rights, such as free movement within the EU without borders, are currently massively restricted. We do not want to and must not give them up.
